Register to play in the 2019 Maori Basketball Tournament

We are confident in being able to enter at least four teams in the 2019 Tournament

After last week’s hui, we are now moving on to the next stage in order to formalise our team entries. Key points that all potential players need to be aware of:

  • Cost per player – this will be kept as low as possible, and once a team is confirmed players will be required to make a non-refundable $100 deposit to secure their place. (Canterbury Basketball Association will be administering the collection of costs – our bank details can be seen here)
  • Registering – all potential players need to register directly with Māori Basketball via their online form. This is a one-time registration, and will not need doing in subsequent years. Select your Iwi as normal (not the area our teams will be representing), and your preferred grade (this can be changed later)
  • Confirming – once you have completed your registration, please email Josh Thompson so he can check you off from our records. He will advise you of the reference code to use, and when you can make your deposit (once enough players have confirmed in your desired team)
  • Help – if you wish to be involved as a coach or manager (or any other way: e.g. to help reduce costs) please email Josh Thompson

Individual player fees are expected to be between $1000 and $1500 if we are unsuccessful in gaining any funding. We are confident the total cost per player will be closer to $500 though. Funding and fees will be used to cover:

  • Team Entry
  • Flights to Auckland
  • Rental Vehicle and Fuel
  • Accommodation
  • Tournament Food
  • Coach and Manager’s costs to attend the tournament
  • Gym hire for preparation camps
  • Other costs as agreed upon by each of our teams

We have been granted a short extension for entering teams, but need all committed players registered before the end of business on Thursday 8 November 2018. We can only enter one team per grade offered, so may have to get some players playing in a higher age-bracket.

Weekend Training Camps will be held once a month beginning in mid to late November. Tournament is held in Rotorua from Wednesday 23 January until Saturday 26 January 2019.
