Macca’s Week Eight Update

It’s the final round of games before teams head into the holiday break – see where every team is playing

The McDonald’s Thomson Trophy Competition moved into its second phase last week, with the top six teams beginning to battle it out for playoff seeds, and the bottom six teams having their eyes on the two playoff spots available to their pool. This is the first week in the Whelan Division Two Competition where pools have been decided, so a good chance for teams to grab some revenge.

Double Headers for July 2 (5:15pm and 7:00pm):

  • Cashmere High will host the Papanui Girls team, then the Mariners will put the Dowson Cup up for grabs against a young St. Thomas team
  • Lincoln High will be favoured in their two match-ups tonight, first against the Riccarton Whelan team, then the Kaiapoi boys
  • Middleton Grange will have two tough games – the Gators playing Rangi Ruru first, then our Thomson Trophy Game of the Week against Christ’s College
  • The Spartans will play against St. Andrew’s first, before the Avonside Lady Eagles host Rangiora second at Ōrua Paeroa

Papanui has one of their few home games of the year at the Graham Condon Centre – 4:30pm they will play the Hagley Boys’ team. Down in Ashburton at 6pm the AshColl boys will go up against a Burnside High team desperate for a win.

In 5:15pm action, we have:

  • Burnside hosting the Ellesmere College Whelan team
  • Christchurch Girls’ High will try to wrest the Phil Burns Cup from Kaiapoi in our Whelan Game of the Week
  • Hillmorton High has last years Thomson Trophy finalists from Rangiora coming
  • Hornby’s Girls team will play a Villa Maria team that is looking like a contender in Division II
  • Rangiora New Life (at Rangiora High) goes up against Te Pā o Rākaihautū (who got their first ever win last week!)

We have only one single 7:00pm game this round, with Haeta hosting Cathedral College.
