Wildcats Worldwide – Late December ’18

Read our latest installment of what our Wildcats are up to this year

Wildcats Players overseas… as we review the latest action involving our past and present Wildcats playing overseas it’s pleasing to report that Tsubasa Nisbet and Esra McGoldrick were both given an early Christmas present.

Tsubasa was awarded her first appearance of the season by the Georgia Southern University Eagles. The Eagles soared past Coastal Georgia winning 68-46 to improve to 4-5 for the season with Tsubasa corralling a couple of rebounds to mark her debut.

In front of over 2,000 fans Esra scored her first points in North Carolina State colours when she made a pair of baskets as the Wolfpack hounded Maine into submission winning 84-46. The Wolfpack are now 11-0 for the season, and the perfect start to the season sees NC State rise to #10 ranking in NCAA Women’s basketball – the highest ranking for any women’s college team that has a Kiwi on their roster.

Cal State Fullerton Titans gave Amiee Book her first start of the season and the freshman guard didn’t disappoint knocking down 3 of her 5 shots from beyond the arc in a 77-65 win against Antelope Valley. That makes 19 made threes for Amiee from 38 shots in the first ten games of the season at a more than healthy 50%. She sits fourth on the Titans scoring list averaging 11.7 points per game ahead of an eight day break.

Also in NCAA Division I action Mary Goulding scored 14 points and added 4 rebounds as the Fordham University Rams enjoyed a convincing 69-48 win against Columbia University.

Unlike the Division I programmes the NCAA Division II colleges have already begun conference play with Lauryn Hippolite and her Hawaii Pacific Sharks team having a perfect four wins from four games in the PacWest Conference after an 86-67 victory against St Martin’s. Lauryn found herself in foul trouble in this one – she scored 5 points and pulled down a pair of rebounds but was limited to just 13 minutes on the floor.

Toni Farnworth filled the stats line for Perth Lynx in their Australian Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) visit to Townsville on Friday but the Lynx were torched by the Fire 97-72. Antonia Edmondson only made 2 points but did come up with a game high 6 assists to accompany 6 rebounds a block and a steal.

Toni came up against a couple of her Tall Ferns teammates on Friday with both Micaela Cocks and Stella Beck lining up for Townsville. That result and another road loss at Canberra on Sunday means Perth slip to second on the WNBL ladder with a 9-5 record – one win adrift of leaders Melbourne Boomers (10-5).

Most teams in Australia and America will be busy over the holiday period so we will update you on how our Wildcats alumni are performing early next month.
